Saturday, October 20

12 PM & 2 PM

Author Doug Hocking speaks about his book Tom Jeffords: Friend of Cochise. Until recently the name Tom Jeffords only seemed familiar due to fictional representations, including Jimmy Stewart’s role in the 1950 movie Broken Arrowand the 1947 novel it was based on, Blood Brother. After spending his childhood in the East, the real Jeffords headed Westto Pike’s Peak, where he hoped to find wealth during the Gold Rush, then on to Arizona and New Mexico. Jeffords met Apache leader Cochise in 1871 and won his respect. A fast friendship between the two became the basis for negotiations and led to four years of peace in Arizona.
