Western National Parks Association (WNPA) seeks candidates for an Assistant Park Store Manager (APSM) opportunity to help lead the retail operation of our park store. Working under the direction of the Park Store Manager (PSM), the APSM assists with the operation of one or more WNPA stores inside our western national parks.  Using your entrepreneurial skills to achieve sales and operational goals, drive revenue, and propose new ways to connect store(s) to visitors. Our staff uphold WNPA’s mission to create advocates for national parks and will use an innovative approach to blending a traditional retail experience with relevant park stories, emphasizing visitor education through a retail experience.

Responsibilities:  Assists the manager with day-to-day store operations, driving sales, assists customers with the selection of merchandise, . Conducts outreach efforts, when appropriate, in support of ; order, stock and display product; assists the PSM and staff in managing inventory; oversee staff and volunteers; conduct sales transactions and  support park interpretive programs and events.  This position assists in organizing public education activities,  support special sales events, and assists with publicity campaigns.  At all times, creates and maintains collaborative, positive, and productive relationships.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  In the absence of the PSM, the APSM may direct WNPA staff and volunteers.  The APSM will discuss any observations of issues involving WNPA employee interactions with Park Store Manager in a private, timely and constructive manner. 

Required Qualifications:

>High school diploma or equivalent
>Prior retail experience, to include operating cash registers and credit card machines, handling money, making change and assisting customers in a retail setting
>Learning capacity and interest in becoming a subject matter expert in Native American crafts and their cultural significance and the ability to learn from the PSM to market niche products and programs to visitors
>In collaboration with PSM, the ability to learn to plan and implement successful community education or outreach programs
>Ability to learn to utilize P & L and manage to budget
>Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and sometimes evening events


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

>Computers: Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Docs, Skype
>Cash register and point of sale systems including automated inventory systems
>>A copy of the Department of Motor Vehicle driving record; a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance coverage required
>>Successful NPS background check to obtain necessary security clearance


Travel is infrequent but may be required to use personal vehicle to deposit monies at bank and for occasional purchase of supplies at local stores.

Compensation:  Hourly rate based on duties and responsibilities and locale, plus store discount and clothing allowance

Schedule:  Depending on location (dol), minimally must be available for weekend work approximately 24 to 40 hours per week(dol) .  Must be available for a flexible schedule for evening and/ or special events including weekends and seasonal changes to work schedule .
