The Wilderness Act Turns 50: Arizona Celebrates Its Natural Heritage

Arizona has 90 wilderness areas, protecting 4.5 million acres of undeveloped land throughout the state. This presentation will provide background on the Wilderness Act of 1964 and focus on the importance of wilderness in southern Arizona. Meg Weesner is leading a group of southern Arizonans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act throughout 2014. She retired in 2011 after a 34-year career with the National Park Service, during which she was consistently involved in wilderness issues.
