Eric H. Metzler is here to show you that there are still new discoveries to be made. As an acclaimed entomologist, Eric studies moths at White Sands National Monument. The monument gets its name from the great, wave-like dunes of gypsum sand that have engulfed 275 square miles of the New Mexico desert. It is in this mystical landscape that Eric has been discovering new species of moths since 2007.

In the first three months of his study, Eric discovered several new species. Since then, he has identified more than 30 species of moths new to science, demonstrating that this magnificent stretch of glistening white sand is home to more endemic species of moth than any other location in North America.
