National Parks Store: Riding Behind the Padre

Join Mr. Collins as he discusses his book, Riding Behind the Padre: Horseback Views from Both Sides of the Border.

Father Eusebio Kino arrived in New Spain over 330 years ago and traveled tens of thousands of miles on horseback through the Sonoran Desert. He established numerous missions and remains an important figure in the history of the Southwest.

Richard Collins and twenty, or so, compadres from both sides of the border spend four days together each year riding the trails of Padre Kino. Collins, a rancher from Sonoita, looks at the border from the back of a horse, getting up close and personal with the geography and the people. The focus is on getting along, talking and listening and learning from each other.  The group is called Por Los Caminos de Kino; their special cause is to advance the canonization of Padre Kino and to enhance peaceful border relations.

Join Mr. Collins as he discusses his book, Riding Behind the Padre: Horseback Views from Both Sides of the Border, and four of Padre Kino’s trails. This presentation is engaging, insightful, and sure to not leave you with saddle sores!

Presentations at 12 PM & 2 PM.
