The National Park Service (NPS) has over 200 divers in 28 areas. Every year they recover drowning victims, conduct biological and archaeological research, maintain docks and buoys, and monitor historic shipwrecks on national park lands. Charles “Butch” Farabee, a retired park ranger and superintendent with over 50 years of dive experience, discusses the dive program, emphasizing NPS’s role in the fascinating field of underwater archaeology.
