Presented by Doug Hocking, Historian

Do you know about the Decalogue Stone?

Have you encountered the Penitentes, a medieval cult that crucify a man at Easter? What about the army of religious enforcers rounding up the descendants of the Children of Israel or the Pitukopf of the Utes encountered by mountain men?

Join Doug Hocking as he discusses some of the west’s most intriguing unanswered questions. Seventy five miles northeast of Gallup, New Mexico, Chaco Canyon is steeped in mystery. Why did the original settlers travel to the hottest place in New Mexico where water is scarce? Why do only the front rooms of the towering pueblos show signs of occupation? Why, after a 500 year occupation, are there only a handful of graves? While there may not be answers to every question, Doug’s extensive knowledge of the region will engage and enlighten a wide audience.Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about the stories and enigmas of the southwest.

Talks at 12 noon and 2 PM.
