In this presentation, you will enjoy learning more about the traditions and the artworks that infuse the Day of the Dead with vibrant energy.
The Day of the Dead festivities, practiced in Mexico and other Latin American countries, continue to inspire artists to create works of art that express the essence of the holiday. Laughing skulls and dancing skeletons are some of the most iconic and vivid images associated with the Day of the Dead. Local markets, community events and decorated cemeteries showcase the creative energy of the people. Many contemporary artists use their preferred media to create objects of fine craft, sought after by museums and private collectors.
Stevie Mack is regarded as a leading authority of the Day of the Dead. In 2011, her first book, Day of the Dead, written in collaboration with Kitty Williams, was published by Gibbs Smith. Due to a very enthusiastic response, their second title, Day of the Dead Folk Art was released in 2015. Join Stevie at Western National Parks for a presentation and book signing.
Talks at 12 noon and 2 PM.
