John Wesley Powell. Many do not know this man or his tale. In the spring of 1869, Powell led an expedition down the Colorado River into the last uncharted territory in the United States. Ninety-nine days later he emerged from the Grand Canyon after one of the most daring journeys in American history.  Powell began his journey as an obscure professor, but ends it as a notorious explorer who defeated all odds to protect the people and beauty of what would soon become a wonder of the natural world. Transformed by the experience, Powell would forever change attitudes about the West.

Escape the Tucson heat and delve into a piece of American history.
