Navajo artistic traditions are involved cultural practices that tap into spiritual and historical stories. Join R. C. Nakai in this hands-on workshop as he teaches the art of handcrafting and decorating gourd rattles with traditional materials. Participants will also benefit from working directly with world renowned American Indian performer and musician.

Of Navajo-Ute heritage, R. Carlos Nakai is the world’s premier performer of the American Indian flute. Nakai is an iconoclastic traditionalist who views his cultural heritage not only as a source and inspiration, but also a dynamic continuum of natural change, growth, and adaptation, subject to the artist’s expressive needs.
