More than a century ago the Wetherills reported wide prehistoric roadways near Chaco Canyon. These paths were mostly forgotten by archaeologists working in Chaco Canyon until the 1970s, when several hundred miles of roads linking Chaco Canyon with multiple locations in northwestern New Mexico were identified—some of them up to 30 feet wide. Renowned archaeologist and Chaco specialist Gwinn Vivian discusses the road system and a variety of theories regarding its function.

This lecture will also be presented at 12pm.
